THE The Role of Auditor-General in Strengthening Compliance Levels in Local Government Administration: The Quest for Dedicated Public Officials
Abstract
The role of this paper is to unpack the role of Auditor General in stregnthening local government administration. this article argues that in the public sector, complience requires restricting action and behavior to achieve the goal of good governanace and citizen service. there is no better place to study complience in all its formsthan in the audit processes and results of local governemnt in South Africa. this paper examine its purpose based on the Principle-Agent theory and the Policeman Theory. The paper is concpetual in nature and is based on existing relevant literature to demonstrate how the Auditor General's administration and /or powers can assist in streghtehning local government administration, particularly municipal finance management.
