A Survey of Causes, Effects, and Remedy of Juvenile Delinquency in Selected Secondary Schools in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State
Abstract
The research investigates the causes, effects, and remedies of Juvenile Delinquency in selected secondary schools in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State. Four research hypotheses were formulated for the study. Data were collected by random sampling from sixty secondary school teachers and sixty students. A questionnaire developed by the researcher was used for the data collection. Data were analyzed using mean and t-test statistics. The following findings emerged:
- There is a high rate of juvenile delinquency.
- Illiterate and uneducated parents breed more delinquents.
- Some children become delinquent due to peer influence.
- The unethical behaviour of some parents and adults affects the behaviour of a child.
